When you are really busy, you are in a hurry. When business is slow, you have more time, but anxiety, according to research, gets in the way of thinking clearly. These 5 tips can jog your mind, increase revenue and reduce costs. When you are really busy, you don’t have time for these, but when business drops off, these are essential!

1. Follow up on those leads you let slip by you when you were busy or anxious. In your networking you find more than you can follow up on when you are busy, but in downtime periods, find every business card and email address and follow up with marketing. You might be surprised. The good you are seeking is seeking you.

2. Expand your vision, focus on what you want, not on what you don’t have. Find new networks and groups to market your business. Example: As a Fortune 10, 50, 100 consultant, small business owners were not my market. But they need what I have. So until those big companies start hiring consultants again, small business values my work. And they decide and move faster!

3. Update your website with more compelling copy and expand your email list.

4. Inventory your office supplies and equipment, so you know what you have and won’t buy what you don’t need. Sell any equipment or supplies you no longer need. Downsize office space if that is needed for you.

5. Save money, go green! Re-use all paper & envelopes for notes or internal office copies. I haven’t bought scrap paper for decades. Refill ink cartridges. Open the window instead of using the AC. Buy used/recycled products and supplies. They save money and have fewer toxic emissions (VOCs) than new products.

These are my passionate questions I think about every day. Use them, ponder them, meditate on them, ask yourself these before you go to sleep:

1. What strengths are you under-emphasizing that you could apply more to your work?

2. What are the niche markets you haven’t thought of yet that need what you have and will pay you for it?

3. How can you find them and contact them?

4. Who do you know who can open a door for you in that niche?

5. What do you have that adds massive value to their lives?

6. How can you increase the value you add to your customers’ lives?

By Universal Law, if you send out a clean positive request, unmuddied by the negative, the resources you need will show up for you. Focus on your greatness and Be alert. One opportunity recently came to me because I noticed a license plate from my parents’ home state!!

Example: As a Fortune 10, 50, 100 consultant, small business owners were not my market. But they need what I have. So until those big companies start hiring consultants again, small business are a great niche for me.

How did I make the shift? My intuition in August of ’08 told me to drop all my categories and expect the unexpected. I heeded my intuition, being a 4th generation intuitive and a 25+ yr. expert in executive intuition. Small companies showed up!! Not in my typical industries either. They want my intuitive and spiritual as well as my positive leadership expertise. And I recently manifested

revenue for a client by visualization/prayer! She was thrilled.

I can see the future of a company and help that company align with it for maximum success. They are hungry to see their future, which is usually bigger than they have conceived.

Are Your Relationships Suffering from the Economy? What you say is what you get(R)!

Dear Clients, Colleagues and Friends,

This month many are telling me their relationships are suffering from economic stress. How about yours?

1. Are you and your closest associates friends and family stressed out about money?

2. Are you or those close to you snapping, raising your voice, speaking negatively?

3. Are your relationships suffering as a result?

4. Are you being hard on yourself because of the economy which you cannot control?

5. Are you trying to tough it out alone without the support you need?

Are your relationships suffering from the Economy Blues? One person finds himself

snapping at the most positive person he knows. Another finds himself spouting political

rage, dumping it on a friend. Couples in financial stress are snapping at each other.

How about you?

My broker just called. I was going to call him, but he called me just then. The first thing he said was,

“I have been thinking about you. I know what hard times you are going through, but you always have a positive uplifting attitude and tone of voice. You are amazing. Anyone else in your circumstances would be ticked off at the world, but you are not.”

His appreciation touched me deeply and meant so much, as I work hard to walk my Positive Leadership talk and stay positive. He let me know that he really respected my positivity under the stress of losses. I am not angry. I am not taking medications. I have much peace despite the financial challenges and hassles which take up a lot of my time and weigh on me. In order to get that peace, I do many things daily to keep peaceful.

How about you? How are you doing under economic stress? A number of people have indicated to me this month that they are under huge stress and having trouble staying positive. (If you have a job, you should be very very very very grateful!) Some of them have been “leaking” Old Power behavior, even though in their best selves they know better.

They have found themselves furious about national leadership, about their personal losses, snapping at others, and reverting to criticism without any appreciation. It made me realize that although I wrote the book From Old Power to New Power, Which Leaders Will Survive for leaders, the same Old Power negative behaviors are causing problems in personal relationships….

Dear me! Another book to write! Maybe audios instead! Meanwhile, my secrets for staying positive and avoiding negative states--the magic is the combination of all of them together.

Leadership and Consulting/Coaching Tips: Negative Old Power influences to avoid and positive New Power strategies:

Negatives to Avoid If You Want More Positive Relationships

1. Sugar and alcohol, Refined carbs, white flour (except for a glass of red wine with dinner. One!)

They agitate then depress you. Eating these is being overly aggressive to yourself. Try fruit!

2. Negative emotional news and outbursts on the media. This is not entertainment, you are being programmed if you allow it. Let them shout, not you! Any media or stories that paint anyone as a helpless victim. We are not helpless.

3. Avoid negative angry people and relationships, as they will keep you stuck in the negative. This is very

bad for your mental, spiritual, emotional and physical health. Hey, other than that......

4. Stay away from any negative religious messages or programming. God is not angry at you.

5. Watch your own thoughts and words. If negative, switch to the positive. What You Say Is What You Get(R)! This is not a time to criticize yourself or your closest people. Express your feelings without criticizing others. (We teach these skills to clients.)

Many are feeling vulnerable and uncertain from the Economy Blues, especially business owners or the unemployed facing losses. What’s done is done. Move forward based on what you want and what your inner wisdom calls you to be and do.

New Power Positive Relationship Strategies for Leaders, Consultants, Employees, Coaches, and Close Friends & Family:

1. Eat healthy, it will stabilize your moods. Don’t overeat it will drag you down.

2. Exercise safely to boost your mood—yeah, neurotransmitters! You know the drill--check with your doctor first!

3. Give yourself positive supportive relationships and spiritual environments, prayer, meditation. We all need support!

3. Stick with positive media, stories, and people! Speak positive words. What You Say Is What You Get(R)!

How well do you see and apply the strengths in your business?

This is an issue people have brought up to me this month. How well do you do this?
To build on your strengths, you need to know in depth what they are!!! And how to apply them!

What is the practical application of greatness-for re-building

and growing your business in a tough economy?

Every company needs different strengths to thrive, grow and re-build, especially in a tough economy. How good are you at seeing your own strengths and those of your key people, suppliers and customers? What is it costing you not to do so? How can every part of your business do better with a strategic and practical application of those strengths? Any less than this will leave your company less successful than it can be! I find that few people know their strengths. Do you?

When I started this work, I was amazed to find that senior executive teams did not know their strengths or each other’s strengths and did not have a language of strengths to discuss it, and were shy or embarrassed to venture into this discussion. One team, after years of fear and constricted communication, turned around in one day using just 2 wheelsof the Engine and 4 Wheels Leadership Language of Strengths System in my book (see below) What You Say Is What You Get®:

What is the most powerful foundation-the deepest key-for re-building and growing your business in a tough economy?


Hi Everyone,

Recently I have been having a HAT Conference, a meeting of all my roles, all the hats I wear.

Putting on my economist/MBA hat, I see the banks not lending, prolonging the credit crisis and the housing debacle, because:
1. Their capital requirement are higher, six to one for foreclosures.
2. Their toxic mortgage assets are valued higher than reality dictates since the mark to market rules were relaxed, allowing them to value assets at higher than market levels even though the mortgage assets are still declining in value.

Note that the markets rose only after the rule was changed, but the underlying assets

are worth even less now!

This raised the question for me, putting on my hat as a leadership power futurist:

What will it take to rebuild companies to get out of this recession faster? So many have lost so much. What do leaders need to do to create businesses on a stronger foundation? Given that the underlying cause of the economic crash is the use and abuse of Old Power (see previous posts) and that Old Power industries, such as autos and financial services caused the greatest losses and took the greatest hits, I claim in my new book

From Old Power to New Power--Which Leaders Will Survive? that only leaders who make the Power Shift to New Power (positive collaborative leadership based on integrated systems for strengths-based strategy and tactics) will survive, and that Old Power leaders will destroy their careers and companies, as we have seen.


Old Power--fear based, authoritarian, out only for onesself, excessive greed, unethical illegal activities--is over. The risk is simply too high. We are too interdependent for it to work anymore. Only knowing the greatest strengths in your company gives you the right foundation for survival and success. Anything less
is too slow and underperforms too greatly, especially with the downward pricing pressure in the global econony.

Example:

Two senior executive clients, hesitant to talk about their strengths, had difficulty clarifying their roles and responsibilities, frustrating both despite their respect for each other. They were both doing parts of their job they did not like, which the other was itching to do.
